Make a Difference and Have Fun!

You have heard about Goodwill's fundraiser by now, by reading this blog and seeing the invites in the mail, but are you coming?? I hope so!

It is going to be a great time! We have several local community members who will be modeling some Goodwill fashions, and they are going to be great! In addition, the auction items for this fundraiser beat any auction items I have seen at a fundraiser! Like what? Well, how about a Walter Payton autographed football? How about Bears Tickets? A Cruise in the Bahamas? Hotel and Bed and Breakfast stays, fun events, and of course, interesting items to suit any taste!

And if that doesn't interest you, how about coming to honor two influential community members and at the same time, helping our community attain more education? Did you know that in the Rockford area, only 19% of our adult population has post-high school education? This event is being held to raise funds for 2 new scholarships, the Jon Lundin Scholarship and the DoAnn Geiger scholarship. I can't say enough or even begin to list the accomplishments of these 2 people. Jon Lundin was our former President at Goodwill Industries. He was an author, a visionary, and a compassionate person who did so much for the community as a whole. DoAnn Geiger is a caring woman who has fought for the rights of individuals with disabilities her entire life, and brought the Special Olympics to this area after witnessing the first games in Chicago in 1968. 2 new scholarships mean 2 more individuals who might not have been able to attend college or trade school going for more education, which helps all of us in the Rockford community. And who knows, if they can do it, maybe their family and friends will be inspired to do it too. More education means a better community and we can all support that.

So come to the fundraiser! Have a little fun and feel good about making your community a better place, all while winning some Bears Tickets. It's a win-win.
